The Corinthians

Book, Chapter 15  (Faith First)

In this chapter we discuss the following topics:

Jesus' Apostle Paul

The Corinthians

What about us?

Jesus' Apostle Paul

Paul was the most important of all Jesus' apostles from the stand point of spreading the Gospel of Christ among the non-jews (gentiles). He travelled extensively throughout the Mediterranean parts of the world, especially Asia Minor, Achaia, and Macedonia. It is said that "Jesus preached the Kingdom of God, while Paul preached Jesus". Paul tried to establish Christian congregations (no matter how small) in every major civilized area around the Mediterranean..

The Corinthians

During his apostolship he also established a Christian community in a small Greek town - Corinth. While traveling, he did not always have the opportunity to go back to the towns he has already visited, and so he was writing letters of which today, some are published in our New Testament. These letters are also known as the Epistles. While in Ephesus, Paul learned of Corinthian's lack of reverence and respect for the Eucharist. He reprimanded them for this in his letter to the Corinthians. He told them that when they came together for the breaking of the bread, they were sharing the Body and Blood of the Lord.

What about us?

For some strange reason we too sometimes behave like the Corinthians did. Some priests complain that when they give out the Holy Eucharist during the communion, some kids and even adults play with it before placing it in their mouth. Another very bad habit I noticed among our kids is that during the celebration of the Holy Eucharist by the priest, many kids keep on talking or doing other things instead of silently concelebrating the rite, and being on their knees. This is very disrespectful to our Lord.
